Pollard concedes mayor's race

KATU Photographer Tom Agosti was in Vancouver Friday afternoon and shot this short cell phone video of a portion of Mayor Royce Pollard's statement.

_____________

Vancouver's mayor conceded the election on Friday and pledged to help Tim Leavitt become the city's new leader.

Mayor Royce Pollard said he wasn't able to personally congratulate Leavitt but he did try three different times to reach him.

He said he will miss being the mayor of "America's" Vancouver but that he accepts and respects the voters' decision.

"the campaign has been one of the most competitive in our city's history," he said. "we had spirited debates on many issues from job creation to public safety and to building a new bridge over the Columbia River."

Pollard said one of his biggest accomplishments was ensuring that Vancouver is no longer just viewed as a suburb of Portland.

Thank you, Royce, for your many years of service.

It's a shame career politicians don't know when to retire.

It took the will of the people to force Pollard out.

Good luck Mayor-Elect Leavitt !

Vancouver voters finally got smart and tossed this worthless idiot out of office.  They should have done it years ago.  Now he can live off all the kick-backs he received from his developer pals.  Good riddance.

Maybe Mayor Leavitt will bring city streets up to some sort of minimum safety standard instead of allowing "developers" to ruin neighborhoods and putting city residents safety at risk.

Vancouver is no longer viewed as a suburb of Portland?

Hello!  Vancouver is a suburb of Portland.  What ignorance.

Good riddance Pollard's picture

Yeah, Portland thinks that were attached at the hip and thats why they want Clark County to pay for THEIR bridge.

I've paid for it already..with MY TAXES to OREGON.

We who live in Vancouver have to go over the I-5 bridge as theres not too many jobs in Vancouver {Thanks Pollard}and sorry the majority of us CAN NOT afford to pay $1,300 a year in tolls.
